I’ve been meeting with our event designer, Deborah Weisenhaus, owner of Chicago based Art of Imagination. Up until today, we have been swayed by dreamy descriptions of what our reception would look like. Our event design is inspired by the warmth of a Fall color palette and the organic architecture that nature provides.
Last night Deborah (who I found from Pure Kitchen Catering who I found and booked on CaterBid) hosted myself, my fiancé, and our wedding planner, Heather Meibach, for a dessert tasting and table design preview. After laboring exhaustively over budget, guest count and ceremony programs it’s only toward the end of the process you get to do the fun stuff.
Deborah is a treat to work with. I can’t imagine her doing anything else for a living. She was destined to design experiences like ours. What I loved about working with Deborah is her artistry that is symbolic and cost-efficient. From our first meeting she made this clear. She was committed to our vision even before we booked her, by joining us at our venue twice to make sure we understood her ideas.

Here I have included some pictures from our preview. We were able to spend more of our budget on actual flowers because we borrowed vases from a cousin. The vases are a reflective silver color. Deborah took advantage of this by setting small candles alongside the vases. The reflective surface of the vases multiplied the candles’ illumination and created an intimacy in the room.
Deborah was also really receptive to our ideas. For the big day, we will use roses with less peachiness and instead use rich lapis tones to go with our bridesmaid dresses .
As much as I adore the design for our event, I was also drawn to another mock-up Deborah had created for another budget-bride. This bride-to-be decided against flowers all together. Instead, she is relying on lighting and crystal candle holders and vases to create texture and depth. The result was gorgeous and made me think twice about my own look and feel.
I’m still really excited to continue working with Deborah.
Her creative energy and thoughtfulness are infectious
